PAPERWORK REDUCTION ACT STATEMENT: A federal agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, nor shall a person be subject to a penalty for failure to comply with, a collection of information subject to the requirements of the Paperwork Reduction Act unless that collection of information displays a current valid OMB Control Number. The OMB Control Number for this information collection is 2127-0510 (Expiration Date: 02/28/2026). This is a mandatory information collection that covers submissions of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) deciphering information. Under 49 CFR Part 565, manufacturers of motor vehicles are required to submit to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) VIN-deciphering information whenever the manufacturer creates a new VIN-deciphering scheme or needs to update or otherwise make an amendment to a previously submitted VIN-deciphering scheme. NHTSA uses this information to identify the responsible manufacturer of vehicles that contain a safety-related defect or do not comply with an applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standard, as well as to determine production range, manufacturing plant, or relevant features to help determine the scope of a defect or noncompliance. NHTSA estimates the burden associated with this submission to be 1 hour. Send comments regarding this burden estimate or any other aspect of this collection of information, including suggestions for reducing this burden to: Information Collection Clearance Officer, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Ave, S.E., Room W45-205, Washington, DC, 20590.

If you are already registered with NHTSA please enter your Manufacturer ID (you can find it in the MID app). This will help you pre-populate forms with existing data.
